How do I work?

I believe true development only occurs when we look at change from all aspects of human experience, i.e. we consider the coaching topic from the way we think about it, the way we feel about it, how this shows up in our bodies, how it plays out in our relationships, our communities and how able we are to integrate all of this into our conscious awareness. That might sound a little intimidating but it is simply trying to recognise we are all more than brains walking around experiencing our lives!

The starting point for the coaching relationship will be for me to understand the topic you would like to explore and the context of your life. I will then take this and develop a coaching plan that we will agree and work on together for the remaining coaching sessions. This can be any number of sessions, it all depends on what works for the topic you bring. In between coaching sessions, I will ask you to undertake some practices and reflections to help us see how you are making sense of the plan and what opportunities this presents for you to step into a broader and deeper version of yourself.

I have worked with several coaches but Gareth is different.  He doesn’t just ask questions, he is a guide. Gareth listened to me, challenged me and used his approach to help me articulate my purpose…his coaching kick started something in me. Gareth made sure that the coaching was focused on me and what I was capable of.  We focused less on my context and my immediate situation. This meant that I been able to develop a sense of mission and purpose that stays consistent in all aspects of my life. I really valued the mix of approaches.  The one to ones, the ‘homework’ and the personal reflection time.  Gareth’s understanding of behavioural change was critical for my development.  He knew where to speed up and slow down. I would 110% recommend him is a coach that brings your best out of you.  I haven’t been the same since these sessions.

Gareth is a very good listener, he let me share my past, experience, the way I feel in a non-judgemental way, he came across as a compassionate and empathetic individual. He immediately set up a friendly atmosphere by adapting to my needs/challenges and by showing motivation in supporting me. Gareth is great at valuing people and understanding our uniqueness. He is an encouraging coach. During the sessions, I liked the way he challenged me by asking excellent open questions to help me to reflect on my own thoughts/emotions and by referring to what happens in my body when stuck in own feelings. What I enjoy the most was his ability to summarise what I was trying to say; at times, I found hard to share how exactly I felt probably because I was trying to make sense of myself when speaking, but it always felt like a relief when he reformulated what he understood, like if someone knew exactly what was happening, he made me feel listened and understood. I learnt a lot from his style, it was like having a big brother; a wise one.

I walked into our coaching sessions with what I believe is a “normal” playbook of life – not sure if my job was right for me, unsure about my plan in life, my diet and exercise were really starting to deteriorate, etc.  That is where Gareth did an excellent job of honing-in on the ‘now and present.’   Gareth guided me on a path to help me discover how I could take short steps to achieve the long term goals that I was ultimately looking for, unlike the floating along experience I found myself in over and over.

Gareth’s approach helped me find what is actually valuable to me and to remove a lot of the noise that creates the rat race of life. I really enjoyed our talks and the coaching that guided me along the journey.  He has an excellent way of asking the right questions and even when you try to divert from answering them, Gareth has a great way of bringing them back around in a different light to really dig into the important matters.

Gareth is extremely personable and I found it very easy to connect and open up in our conversations.  I am one of those people pleaser personalities that struggles with saying no, which in turn, sometimes gets taken advantage of.  I can honestly say due to the coaching that Gareth has provided me, I have defined what is important in my life and reduced the flood of requests that pour in everyday by sticking to the code that Gareth helped me define.

I would highly recommend Gareth to others and thank you so much Gareth for everything you have helped me with.
